Golden Spiders Awards 2007
Can someone please tell me when Cybercom became a FMCG website? If ONE Guinness website is up for an award then why isn’t it linked to directly? Or can anyone enter three sites for a single nomination?
And while I’m here… Why if a video for bespectacular.co.uk is nominated for best use of film, does the Golden Spiders Awards site link to a page on Ican’s website? A page which doesn’t contain the media in question, and seems like a promotion of the agency rather than the clip?
If my site/video was nominated I’d be just a tad pissed that www.goldenspiders.ie is linking to the agency behind it. Or maybe they meant to put those two over under “Best Web Design & Development Agency”? They could join the nice zero timeout META refresh from Clearscape’s special Golden Spiders landing page (yes, like a few others, Clearscape have a GS landing page) to their root page. No idea why they are redirecting.
True sign of a farce Awards when the nominee sites (or the agencies behind them) are more about the ‘awards’ than vice-versa.
I had made a decision to remain blissfully unaware of the entire farce, but I stupidly checked the list. Now the deviant in me cant wait to take a look at some of the sites using the newly released judging criteria
Another year, another corrupt award ceremony. Still though, it’s nice to see the usual bedfellows in there being shortlisted. I feel sorry for any of the genuine entrants who forked out money to submit their sites to this utter farce.

Probably a lot to do with design/development attribution in the footer of the site.
@Ken: You couldn’t have said it better.

Any awards ceremony that requires you to pay to enter is corrupt by definition. As it turns out I am building a website for a different Irish awards ceremony at present (not to do with web design). They wouldn’t dream of having nominates pay!

jeez, we submitted our site and got short listed (www.mortgagebrokers.ie) but i had no idea the awards were in any way twisted? we are up against companies 100 times our size so i don’t hold too high the hopes of winning. whats the story with people saying they are corrupt? in what way?

Hi Karl
Not sure about being corrupt, but there has always been a lot of negative feeling toward an awards where companies can sponsor a category, sit on the judging panel, and also be a nominee.
And the other issue has been the quality of many of the nominated sites – previously there was no consideration given to web standards of any description.
Best of luck with the awards,
Richard
