First impressions of Penguin 2.0:
* far less negative than original Penguin – sites hit still in top 10 with nothing but spam links
* sites hit by Penguin 1.0 still nowhere – not clear if there was any data refresh with this
* looks very much like disavow has had no impact with this – again this calls into question whether Google has been telling porkies
* brands seem to have done nicely once more – if you have enough brand signal you seem to get a free pass on these updates
Too early to take a stance on this, but the biggest let down isthat this new algo doesn't seem to have any impact on sites hit by Penguin 1.0. Backs up my earlier thoughts that this was going to be something new rather than an iteration, but I cannot see how Google will defend not refreshing Penguin 1.0 data.
