Hang on, so now Google is ranking for mortgages in organic results?
Not content just with native, it looks like they're covering all the bases here.

So Google Compare is a trading name of a company that is not google (it is beatthatquote.com LTD) and yet they have a favoured status. I think they're losing the plot at google.

Google bought them a while back Jim.

Oh I get that it is a Google company but to me that means they crossed a line.

So now google chooses which companies are allowed to bid in the mortgage market. I wonder what the commission is?

I tried out their insurance finder earlier this year. It was ok. But I had to go through 2 massive disclaimer pages to go through to the suppliers page.

I just tried to get it to suggest a loan but it knocked me back.

Apparently they won't lend to the unemployed with an income of £2/wk.

Due to BeatThatQuote.com's acquisition by Google we are no longer providing price comparison services through the BeatThatQuote.com website.

So it is a paid listing like Hotel Finder?

+Edwin Jonk So it is a paid listing like Hotel Finder?
It's a sponsored listing, neither organic or a directly paid for Ad by an external company.
"Based on your search query, we think you are trying to find a mortgage. Clicking in this box will take you to our service that lists information from mortgage lenders. You may choose to connect directly to a lender or to a mortgage intermediary. Our service is free to you but to operate this service, we may be compensated by some of these providers."
The European Commission's issue (amongst other anti-competitive issues) is > "we may be compensated by some of these providers."
and whether Google abuses its dominance of Internet searches in Europe to push favoured Web sites from which they receive the highest amounts of financial compensation.

So is sponsored the new paid search?
They are not a separate (external) company because Google acquired them.

So is sponsored the new paid search?
Indirectly yes, but it's not exactly new (2012) you don't even have to compete with others via Adwords , the fact Google are foisting their own /compare/ properties and the lack of transparency is the issue!
