Check Website Layout in Multiple Browsers
One of the greatest difficulties in designing websites is achieving consistent layout results across browser-platform combos.
Unfortunately, browsers don’t always stick to standards and layouts can break.
If you want a nice service that lets you see your web page across multiple browsers and platforms try out BrowserShots.
The free service lets you submit any web page which is queued for processing. Within a couple of hours screenshots of your web page will be taken on multiple browsers/platforms and displayed on the BrowserShots site.
Handy service!
A similar and useful tool with free 24hour eval or paid for service (if you have the budget), is http://www.browsercam.com

Or you could do it manually, with registry hacks to get multiple versions of browsers running at the same time..
Great tool

You could do that Gary. But getting multiple platforms would require a wee bit more work methinks

I’ve got versions of IE 5, 5.5 and 6.0 running locally with IE 7 as a fully installed browser. (The lower versions of IE do not handle cookies tho!)
If you need copies of these let me know…

For testing purposes checkout Selenium (http://www.openqa.org/selenium) allows u to have various ‘looks’ and lots of plug in tests
Tests against Internet Explorer, Mozilla and Firefox on Windows, Linux, and Macintosh with tests in Java, .NET, Perl, Python and Ruby.
Watir is also good (but IE only) http://www.openqa.org/watir/

I use both firefox, IE 6 and IE 7 for testing,
But Macromedia Dreamweaver all have this feature plugged in to validate your site for each differnet browser
Handy tool

Hi Stephen
I use it occasionally, but my preference is with Firefox. You might want to check http://www.redmondhomeandgardenfurniture.ie in Firefox though.

Surprisingly I have never used any of the tools mentioned above, pretty much done all checks manually – I don’t know how much I trust software to do this! I will check them out anyway.
Anyone got any good tips for resolution checking? This is another manual chore I find myself doing all the time!

I have found the portable version (standalone) of fire fox to be very handy for those who like keeping their software installs to a minimum. you can find it on portableapps.com. There are also a few more handy tools there.

Nowadays there is Adobe Browser Lab that does this using profiles from all the latest browsers, including Chrome:
